Emergency First Aid At Work
Course Overview
The Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) is designed to provide learners with the knowledge, understanding, and practical skills needed to deliver effective first aid in the workplace. Meeting the requirements of the Health and Safety Executive (First-Aid) Regulations 1981, this qualification prepares learners to take on the role of a qualified first aider in a variety of workplace settings.
The course covers the essential principles of first aid, including roles and responsibilities, incident assessment, and the administration of first aid to casualties in different situations. Learners will gain the confidence to respond effectively to a range of emergencies, such as breathing difficulties, choking, bleeding, shock, minor injuries, poisoning, anaphylaxis, and suspected major illness.

Course Content
The course provides learners with the essential knowledge and practical skills to deal with a wide variety of first aid situations in the workplace. Training is interactive and hands-on, ensuring learners are confident in applying techniques in real-life scenarios.
Key areas covered include:
- Roles and Responsibilities of a First Aider
Understanding the legal requirements, personal safety considerations, and effective communication in emergency situations. - Incident Assessment
Carrying out a systematic approach to assessing an incident, managing the scene, and prioritising treatment. - Managing an Unresponsive Casualty
Placing casualties in the recovery position, performing CPR, and using an automated external defibrillator (AED). - Breathing and Airway Management
Recognising and responding to choking or other breathing difficulties. - Control of Bleeding and Shock
Treating external bleeding, recognising signs of internal bleeding, and managing shock. - Minor Injuries
Dealing with cuts, grazes, burns, and other common workplace injuries. - Sudden Illness and Medical Conditions
Providing support for casualties experiencing seizures, anaphylaxis, poisoning, or suspected major illness.
By the end of the course, learners will have developed the confidence and competence to deliver effective first aid and meet the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for workplace first aid provision.

Entry Requirements
Focus Awards does not set any other entry requirements, but additional criteria may be requested or specified by the centre.
